5 Tips For Keeping Your Teeth Healthy Through the State Fair!

August 26, 2025

For the last two weeks of August, Minnesotans have the chance to walk the state fair grounds and eat delicious foods, go to concerts in the grand stand, ride thrilling rides, and create lasting memories. We wait with anticipation in lines to try out the new foods, but most of us never consider the oral health effects. Below are some tips and tricks for making your trip to the state fair as “tooth-friendly” as possible.

1. Drink Water

Drinking water not only will keep you hydrated while walking around the fair, but it will also help wash away debris between your teeth, decreasing the risk for cavities.

2. Chew Gum

Chewing sugar-free gum after each meal can reduce the risk of cavities by increasing the saliva in your mouth and collecting any food particles stuck in your teeth.

3. Floss & Brush

Don’t forget to floss and brush your teeth once you get home from the fair! Flossing can help get food out of hard to reach places between your teeth and keep your gums healthy. Brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste can help protect your teeth by brushing away any left over food particles and sugar from the treats devoured earlier in the day.

4. Avoid Sugary Foods

There are many delicious snacks at the fair that are full of sugar. While these are fun to enjoy in moderation, consider limiting the amount of sugary foods you eat while at the fair to help reduce the risk of cavities.

5. Visit Your Local Park Dental Practice

Our last tip is to remember to schedule a cleaning at your local Park Dental practice. Going to the dentist regularly is a great way to stay on top of your oral health!

You can still indulge at the largest state fair while maintaining good oral health. Have fun and don’t forget to brush and floss!

Schedule Your Appointment

Please choose the option below that best describes you:

If you have a Dental Emergency, please CALL your preferred Park Dental location.

I am an Existing Patient and would like to schedule my regular cleaning and exam appointment online.

I am a New Patient, or an Existing Patient looking to schedule dental treatment.

If you are covered under a Medicaid (Medical Assistance/MA) plan, you must call the practice to request your appointment.

Why do some doctors not have a star rating or comments?

In order to provide our patients with the most accurate and beneficial information, we only post star ratings and comments for a doctor once they have received a minimum of 30 surveys within the previous 12 months.
