Get to Know Dr. Audra Wessel

This week in our “Get to Know the Park Dental Doctors” feature we’re profiling Dr. Audra Wessel from our Yankee Doodle Road practice. In her profile, Dr. Wessel shares her treatment philosophy, what she enjoys about being a dentist, as well as some fun facts about her personal life. Learn more about Dr. Wessel below!

What made you choose dentistry?

I have always loved art and with Dentistry, I sculpt teeth for a living. 

What do you love most about being a dentist or what do you find the most rewarding?

I love being able to change people smile and oral health. 

What’s your care/treatment philosophy?

Patients always have a choice. 

Is there a particular area of dentistry you enjoy the most or like to focus on?

I love the variety of general dentistry, both in procedures and patient ages. 

When did you start or how many years have you been with Park Dental?

I began my career with Park Dental in 1997 and left in 1999 to pursue ownership of my own practice and returned to Park Dental in 2022.  

What is one thing you love most about Park Dental?

The support and advantages of multiple practices, doctors, staff, and management. 

What do you enjoy most about being part of a group practice?

Same as above.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

An author. 

What was your very first job?

My first job outside of babysitting was as a cashier at Hardee’s.

What do you like to do on your days off?

I love spending time at the dog park, reading, and meditation. 

What’s your favorite food or drink?

My favorite dessert is a slice of fresh key lime pie. 

Who is your hero or who inspires you?

I am inspired by too many writers to name. A good book teaches, sparks imagination, and improves our minds and lives. 

What is an interesting fact that people may not know about you?

I was adopted as an infant and raised with 2 sisters and a brother. As an adult, I have connected with both birth parents and have an additional brother and 2 sisters on each side. 

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would travel all over Europe and visit historical castles. 

What’s your favorite movie?

My favorite movie is Elf. Combines comedy, children’s books and the holiday spirit. 

What’s your favorite genre of music to listen to?

I like listening to pop and classic rock. 

What are your hobbies?

I read, hike, travel and spend time with family.  

What’s your favorite holiday?

Thanksgiving. 

Do you speak any other languages?

It is on my bucket list to learn Spanish since I travel to Mexico every year. 

Are you scared of or have a fear of anything?

I have become increasingly afraid of heights over the years. 

What’s your favorite thing about living in Minnesota/Wisconsin?

I love the change of seasons and even though I could do with a shorted winter, I would miss snow if I lived at the beach year round. 

Do you have any hidden talents?

No. 

What’s your favorite season?

Fall with all of natures color on display. 

What’s your favorite color?

Red. 

What’s your favorite animal?

Dog, specifically my Siberian husky and the 3 others that I have had in my life. 

How many different states have you lived in?

Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Florida, and Georgia.
